Eventbrite: Small Acts

Angela shares the context and impulses behind her practice and invites participants to explore – through small acts of disruption and intervention – the values at play in their own work. Through techniques such as binding, wrapping, stuffing and simple weaving, you will explore reflection in practice to generate new creative ideas.

Participants will work independently and return to the group to share discoveries. Materials provided, but you may wish to bring along a tool or material you consider essential to your practice.

Angela Maddock is a thread-based artist with an interest in care, repair, holding and containing. Angela was a student of foundation, surface pattern design and fine art at Swansea College of Art. She was senior lecturer in contextual studies and managed the MA Contemporary Textiles pathway. She continues to be honorary research fellow in textiles with the Surface Pattern Design team. She has a PhD from the Royal College of Art, where she is also a visiting lecturer and is Senior Honorary Research Fellow with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King’s College, London.

Access is by one-step entry from pavement level through our main entrance. The workshops will take place in the education space located on the first floor of the gallery. Due to building limitations access to the first floor education space is via steep stairs.  Staff are on hand to provide assistance if needed.

Due to the climate we are opperating in, the classes may be cancelled/postponed at short notice. We will however give you as much notice as we can should this be necessary.
