Mission Gallery and Jamie Hill have partnered to provide an opportunity for the professional development of individuals looking for curatorial experience.
V | A Feminine Perspective, curated by Emma Rylance is the first exhibition of the Mission Gallery initiated partnership to be presented at Jamie Hill Salon, Swansea Marina. The exhibition includes five local artists that work within various arts practices that each encompass themes of femininity.

V | A Feminine Perspective
A dynamic collection of five local artists each incorporating ideas of the feminine, beauty and embodiment, this is apparent through concepts within the visual aesthetic, feminine acts and processes. Fine art, photography, applied arts practices and jewellery are featured in V and collectively the artists offer responses, thoughts and artistic impressions through their individual methods and differing mediums. These works have been created by women and are presented in surroundings predominantly used for the ideal beauty regime. This raises questions about the unusual balance of what could now be considered contemporary feminine beauty, by replacing the familiar categorisations that were once considered the feminine ideal.
Emma Rylance | About
Currently studying for an MA in Contemporary Dialogues (Photography) at Swansea Metropolitan University, Emma is an emerging artist that works with feminine themes and processes. She has been a volunteer at Mission Gallery since October 2009 and previous exhibitions include the Mission Photography Open 2010, and the Jane Phillips Award.
The Mission Gallery + Jamie Hill partnership is for the professional development of Mission Gallery volunteers.
