Outline

Join your tutor Helen Kenna and learn how to make jewellery using 7g of silverclay in this workshop! You will learn about Precious Metal Clay and get loads of useful tips as you go along on using this 999 fine silver clay (sterling silver is 925) to create a pendant, earrings, or even both if you prefer smaller jewellery items.

In the workshop you will learn background information about Precious Metal Clay and looking at a range of jewellery showing its versatility. With demonstrations including mould making and how to pattern and shape the precious metal clay.

You will decide on your design, chosen shape/textures and make a mould of your desired piece. Feel free to bring along a small trinket, shell, button (between sizes of a 5 - 10p piece) that you would like in silver - a selection will be available to use.

When ready, these will be put on hotplates to dry. During the drying time, A demonstration of how to make and attach a bail (the part you put a chain through) will be given.

You will have to sand and tidy your pieces as well as create and add your bails. These will go back on the hotplate whilst a demo of blowtorching is given. Then using a small blow torch, each participant will heat their pieces on firing bricks for approx 5 minutes.

Last, but not least, all pieces will be polished for 10 minutes in the tumbler while we clear up our work areas and give yourselves a huge pat on the back!
