Scareboar (pang index)Aled Simons

16 February - 25 March 2022

This Digital Artwork commission takes the form of a floating and tangential narrative that weaves nostalgic reminiscences, mundane facts and the pseudo-esoteric. Micro and macro space, composition and decomposition. An expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean via the eyeball socket of a rotting sheep.

Aled Simons practice explores pseudo-scientific ritual, anecdote, humour and memory. He often employs looping or repetition - the ubiquitous gif, meme or zine formats. Early 1990s television and its specific place at the junction of a shift between analogue broadcast and digital on-demand viewing. Joke shop props feature heavily and he operates in the space between the tension release of a laugh and the awkwardness of things that go on too long or fall flat and fail.
To accompany this digital artwork a live stream will be broadcast at 7pm on the closing date of the exhibition (25/03/2022). A compilation of research images and animated gifs, found and re-edited footage that informed the artwork process. Scareboar (pang index) will sit at the centre of this broadcast.
