Lisa KrigelMaker In Focus

02 February - 02 March 2019

I received my BFA in Ceramics from Alfred University and my MFA in Ceramics and Mixed Media Sculpture from Pennsylvania State University. I was awarded the Summer Six fellowship from Skidmore college in 1997 and 1998 and taught Fine Art at Ossining High School in New York where I developed an extensive ceramic curriculum.

Since moving to the UK in 1999, I have continued to work as both a practicing ceramic artist and educator. Based at Fireworks Clay Studios since 2000, I have exhibited nationally and internationally in both group and solo exhibitions, contributed to various publications, led workshops in schools and community groups and have undertaken residencies.  I have also worked on a number of commissions including work for a popular television production. I received an arts council development grant in 2005 and the Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod in 2016.  I currently lecture in Ceramics, Fine art and Arts Health and Wellbeing at the University of South Wales and have done so since 2011.

Pushing the boundaries between form and function has always been at the heart of my practice, but my interest in food and architecture, particularly modern and brutalist construction and the utopian Ideology that underpinned many of these architectural forms, fuel my current ceramic work.

Derbyniais fy BFA mewn Cerameg gan Brifysgol Alfred a’m MFA mewn Cerameg a Cherfluniaeth Cyfryngau Cymysg gan Brifysgol Talaith Pensylfania. Enillais Gymrodoriaeth y ‘Summer Six’ gan Goleg Skidmore ym 1997 a 1998 a bûm yn athro celfyddyd gain yn Ysgol Uwchradd Ossining yn Efrog Newydd lle datblygais gwricwlwm cerameg helaeth.

Ers symud i’r DU ym 1999 dw i’n parhau i weithio fel addysgwr ac artist cerameg. Yn gweithio yn Stiwdios Clai Fireworks er 2000, dw i wedi arddangos yn genedlaethol a thramor mewn arddangosfeydd undyn ac ar y cyd, wedi cyfrannu i wahanol gyhoeddiadau, wedi arwain gweithdai mewn ysgolion ac ar gyfer grwpiau cymunedol ac wedi ymgymryd â phreswyliadau. Dw i hefyd wedi gweithio ar sawl comisiwn gan gynnwys gwaith ar gyfer cynhyrchiad teledu poblogaidd. Yn 2005 derbyniais grant datblygu gan Gyngor y Celfyddydau a’r Fedal Aur am Grefft a Dylunio yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn 2016. Ar hyn o bryd, dw i’n darlithio mewn Cerameg, Celfyddyd Gain a Chelfyddydau, Iechyd a Llesiant ym Mhrifysgol De Cymru ac yn gwneud hynny er 2011.

Mae gwthio’r ffiniau rhwng ffurf a swyddogaeth wastad wedi bod wrth graidd fy ngwaith, ond mae fy niddordeb mewn bwyd a phensaernïaeth, yn arbennig adeiladau modern a moel a’r ideoleg iwtopaidd a fu’n tanategu llawer o’r ffurfiau pensaernïol hyn, yn tanio fy ngwaith ceramig presennol.
