Seen and UnseenIngrid Murphy

02 February - 23 March 2019

Part of The Language of Clay

Curated by Ceri Jones

'Ingrid Murphy plays with the conventions of ceramic practice. Her works invite shared experience rather than purely aesthetic contemplation.’ Martina Margetts.

Connectivity is crucial to Ingrid Murphy, between people and places and across time. Her explorations provoke and surprise us as she marries traditional ceramic processes with creative technologies. Be it the view from inside a teapot or the sounds from the streets of Jaipur, her pieces connect us to different perspectives and stories. Seen and unseen is a witty expansion of the languages and qualities of clay.

- Ceri Jones, Curator

Seen and unseen is Ingrid Murphy’s first solo show. It includes interactive elements and all work (apart from one which has been recommissioned) is new. The exhibition at Aberystwyth Arts Centre will tie in with the International Ceramics Festival.

The Language of Clay is a National Touring exhibition series. The initiative is organised by Mission Gallery in Swansea and is delivered in partnership with Ruthin Craft Centre, Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Aberystwyth Ceramics Gallery. The initiative is funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

The Language of Clay exhibitions will be touring venues across Wales during 2017-2019. Accompanied by programmes of activity, they afford opportunities for us to further expand the consideration of ceramic practice and to meet some of our brilliant ceramic artists.
