Radioactive Boglach Exhibition Opening

25 January - 25 January 2020

Join us for the opening of Radioactive Boglach at 2pm on Saturday 25 January 2020.

Mission Gallery has the pleasure of introducing Aimee Lax’ exhibition, first shown at New Brewery Arts, Cirencester.

In the summer of 2017 Aimee Lax took part in a residency at Cove Park, Scotland, overlooking Loch Long. She was immediately struck by the soil, peaty rich-brown and shimmering with metallic-looking healthy bacteria. The fungus and lichen bright green and orange, as a result of the clean air. But literally lurking around the corner, buried deep in the hill side, reside our nation’s warheads…

This led her to follow a fictional line of enquiry, a ‘what if?’ scenario. What if any of the radiation should leak, what kind of organisms might result after decades of undetected toxic seepage? Some results of her thoughts are seen here, as samples of Radioactive Boglach.

Lax graduated from the Royal College of Art, London in 2005 and has worked with Sir Terence Conran, The Royal Over-Seas League, IKON gallery, Crafts Council the Millennium Seed Bank, Eden Project, RHS and the V&A, where she has work in the permanent collection of contemporary ceramics.
