‘Our voice through making, Ein llais trwy creu’ was kindly funded by the Ashley Family Foundation with in kind support from Mission Gallery. With a strong outreach focus the project aimed to connect the local community with two young female artists in Wales, Bonnie Grace and Safiyyah Altaf.
The project supported the exhibition by Artist Bonnie Grace All the things I want to tell you but don’t know how. With the delivery of an artist talk which the recording can be accessed here Artist Talk
Alongside the exhibition the local community were able to drop in to one of our Still Life Drawing sessions , where they could take inspiration from Bonnie’s multidisciplinary work in ceramics, drawing, textiles, and printmaking. Bonnie was also able to deliver Adult and family workshops open to the local community
A vital part of this project was the partnership between the artists and local community group EYST. Both artists held workshops each, sharing their practice with EYST’s support group. With participants able to feel connected to the arts in Swansea and the community around them whilst gaining confidence in their creative skills
With support from the Ashley Family Foundation Mission Gallery launched it’s very first Adult Craft Club, modelled off our successful Children’s Craft Club and led by Mission Gallery’s Outreach Creative, Safiyyah Altaf. Adult participants from the community had the option to attend four textile based workshops which encouraged play, creativity, and reducing anxiety.
