My work and ethos is centred around the idea of ceramics and its strong association with craft – as a material and its context within the fine art spectrum.
It is something that Jorunn Veitiberg (2005) prefers to call the ‘intervening space’ or, to be more precise, the space between function and non-function, tradition and breaking with tradition, craftsmanship-based art and idea-based art. Questions raised by this discourse resonate through my practice.
Composition and display are explored, referencing the domesticity of the familiar everyday home where ceramics is encountered, to porcelain rooms of palaces and stately homes.
