Emily Jones is a ceramic artist whose practice merges material exploration with a deep sensitivity to the natural world. Her fascination with glaze fuels an ongoing investigation into surface, transformation, and tactility. During her university studies, she immersed herself in every aspect of ceramics—from the precision of wheel throwing to the alchemy of glaze chemistry.
Her dissertation research on biomorphism revealed that humans experience measurable health benefits not only through direct contact with nature, but also from exposure to nature-reminiscent patterns, colours, and textures. This insight continues to shape her creative direction, as she seeks to capture the essence of the natural world through glaze.
Her latest series is a study in controlled unpredictability, combining glaze chemistry with the spontaneous dynamics of the kiln to produce organic, evolving surfaces. Each palm-sized vessel is carefully thrown, trimmed, and offered as a canvas for the glaze to react and transform—inviting a quiet, tactile connection between object, viewer, and the natural environment.
