Meanings and MessagesAssociation for Contemporary Jewellery

19 November - 21 December 2022

Exhibition opening: 2pm, Saturday 19th November 2022, with a Walk & Talk with Anna Lewis at 2.30pm.

Mission Gallery is proud to present Meanings and Messages, a major touring exhibition by the Association for Contemporary Jewellery.

The exhibition focuses on brooches, as they form the ideal jewellery archetype for conveying meanings and messages. Brooches can be subversive and are often used by people in the public eye, political figures, or sovereignty to convey important messages. These messages may be hidden, subtle or more of an overt protest!

The response to the brief is diverse - with many drawing on global challenges such as climate change, social justice, governance, resources, pollution, pandemics, and conflict. Some works form personal tributes to loved ones and heroes. The beauty of the natural world plays a prominent role, either by capturing the wonder of life around us, or serving as a reminder of the impact we have as custodians of our planet.

Meanings and Messages is curated into six distinct themes; sparking dialogues between the brooches and encouraging conversations and reflections from viewers.
