Sion Corn's Dolly: Willow corn dolly workshop with Lewis Prosser

Festive refreshments provided

Lewis Prosser is an absurdist basket-maker based in Penarth, whose practice revolves around the interplay of objecthood and entertainment. Informed by heritage crafting techniques, he constructs sustainable artworks with local organic materials.

Learn the corn dolly weaving, reimagined for the Christmas season. In this workshop, you'll create a range of modified corn dollies using heritage willow varieties suitable for seasonal decorations and stocking fillers.

Corn dollies, a longstanding tradition in the British Isles, traditionally crafted from straw to mark the harvest. In this session, you'll explore the folklore and weaving techniques using willow (Traditionally harvested Nov - Feb). In this workshop you will learn how to kickstart and complete your creations, shape and scale your designs, design wooden jigs, and adapt the weave for various applications and seasons.

The finished pieces will be perfect for Christmas baubles, baby's rattles, bird feeders, table decorations, and more. You'll also have the option to weave around objects.

No prior weaving experience is needed. All materials and tools provided. Please be aware that weaving with willow requires dexterity and can be hard on the hands.
