On this one day workshop you will learn the key techniques of traditional willow basket making. You will learn how to weave a base, add sides and turn down a decorative border. Make a multifunctional basket and discover the possibilities of willow weaving.


This is a beginner level course and no previous basketry experience is required. You will need good manual dexterity. Tools and materials will be provided.Willow weaving can sometimes be dirty so please wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy.

 

Lewis Prosser is an artist and basketmaker living in South Wales. He uses basket-making, performance, and costume design to explore ideas of ritual, heritage, and labour in and around the British Isles.

 

Access is by one-step entry from pavement level through our main entrance. The workshops will take place in the education space located on the first floor of the gallery. Due to building limitations access to the first floor education space is via steep stairs. Staff are on hand to provide assistance if needed.
