Artist bio:
Having practised as a ceramic artist since 2001, I predominantly create illustrative bone china tableware from my studio in Fireworks, Cardiff.
I’m always interested in continuing to attempt to further my creative application of my materials by experimenting with hand-building in porcelain, applying new printing techniques, pushing the boundaries of the translucency of bone china and porcelain through the medium of Lithophanes, developing my understanding of pattern and colour, without forgetting my first love of working with ink and watercolour.
Outline:
During this workshop, you will have hands on guiding tuition by our exhibiting artist Lowri Davies- who’s artwork we are proud to showcase in our current Merched ar Lestri exhibition, exploring the delicate world of porcelain. Individuals will receive instruction to work thinly with porcelain, maximising its translucent quality.
Taking reference from Lowri’s love of combining illustration and ceramics, you will be experimenting with black and blue mono-printing techniques creating patterned surfaces, along with scratching into plaster- from which you will develop into raised patterns on porcelain. These intricate objects will be fired by Lowri and then ready for you to take home at a later date.
This workshop is designed to be open to people of all artistic levels. Expert tuition will be provided by the artist, in order to help you come away with a unique artwork that you are truly proud of.
