Precious Things Seminar: Saturday 19th September 2026 | Details to be announced

As the earth’s resources are decreasing, our production of waste increases and more and more of that waste is entering the natural environment. The continuous habit of “take, make and waste” is no longer sustainable. Instead, we must move towards a more circular approach, where waste is reimagined as a ‘precious thing’; far too valuable to discard.

This exhibition marks the start of a two-year programme that challenges perceptions of waste and highlights the circular potential of materials. Precious Things will show how artists, makers, students and communities, can work together to inspire change through creative practice.

Exhibiting artists:

About Precious Things:

Currently second in the world, rates of recycling have increased again as Wales continues its journey towards being a zero-waste nation. But what if there was no such thing as waste in the first place? What if materials were valued not for their scarcity but for what they offered towards restoring nature, climate justice, health and wellbeing.

The artists in this exhibition represent a small section of the exciting work happening in Wales. They not only point to the problems but also reframe discarded materials as ‘resources in waiting’, possibilities yet to be unlocked, each one revealing its precious qualities.

Working with discarded paper, cloth, food, glass, animal, mineral, plastic and plant fibre these artworks also speak of resourcefulness, hope and community connection.
