02 April - 22 May 2011
A Ruthin Craft Centre & Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre Touring Exhibition
Private View 3pm Saturday 9th April 2011
Mission Gallery is delighted to present this Ruthin Craft Centre & Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre Touring Exhibition by Cardiff based artist, Becky Adams.
Becky Adams is a collector of stories; they become an integral part of her life and are ingrained into the making of her work through a sophisticated use of stitch, vintage fabric and antique ephemera. The Curious World of Becky Adams explores the connections between text and textile, presenting a collection of intricate works that combine handmade paper, book binding, old photographs, vintage fabrics and antique ephemera.
This unique exhibition is inspired by, ‘stories; poetry; birds singing; old haberdashery shops; flea markets… small things, unnoticed things, things that need to be rescued’. The list is long, yet not exhaustive. There is a subtle sadness hidden beneath the layers of decoration, visible to those who care to gently peel back the layers of meaning and investigate the inner workings of this intimate artist.
Becky Adams’ work is a recollection of past experience and contemplates themes of memory, souvenir and the preservation of what could otherwise be lost.
