Welcome to Mumbles | Martin WilliamsFilm Screening

04 November - 04 November 2014

7pm Tuesday 4 November 2014

My work is a social document of its time. In making my film, I capture the poetic and romantic beauty of the people and their lives, a culture which is vanishing from today's society. These people are reflected in my own self-image. The cultural environment in which they live is an ingredient in my self-image which makes it my culture and gives me a sense of belonging. I am also watching nature and time passing (a central theme in my film). The subject of my film is Mumbles village, in South Wales. Here, I capture the everyday people and places in the village. It is a place where I grew up. The film is called simply, Welcome To Mumbles.

The greater poetry then, is an art by which a poet justly and reasonably excites great passion, in order to please and instruct, and make mankind better and happier; so that the first and grand rule in the greater poetry is, that a poet must everywhere excite great passion.
