Assembly
The multilayered narrative using the found object and mixed media enables the rediscovery and reinterpretation of tools and materials from Ruth’s upbringing and sense of place. Often referencing carpet laying, soft furnishing, carpentry, refurbishment and church towers; using unexceptional items that might otherwise have been discarded and overlooked. The conceptual dialogues between reinvention and reassembly have re-stimulated the use of hand stitch, alongside machine stitch and three-dimensional construction.
