Rachel Butlin

Rachel Butlin seeks to challenge the concepts of contemporary interactive and wearable jewellery. She produces a range of high-end mixed material, functional and wearable objects, carefully considering material combination and placement. Her work often explores the combination of non-traditional materials, evoking curiosity that creates a connection between the piece and the wearer. Intrigued by Japanese culture and tradition, the art of placement and cultural colour palettes remain central in her designs.

Rachel has a playful and detailed approach to design and the making process. Materials are gathered in a collection, waiting to be explored within a 3D drawing process with the aim of creating settings for non-traditional materials to work harmoniously together.

Nod Rachel Butlin yw herio cysyniadau gemwaith cyfoes rhyngweithiol a gwisgadwy. Cynhyrcha gwrthrychau aml gyfrwng, defnyddiol a gwisgadwy, gan ystyried cyfuniad gofalus deunydd a lleoliad. Mae ei gwaith yn aml yn archwilio cyfuniad deunyddiau llai traddodiadol, yn denu chwilfrydedd  gan greu cysylltiad rhwng y darn a’r gwisgwr. Gyda diddordeb yn niwylliant a thraddodiad Tsiapaniaidd, mae celfyddyd lleoliad a phalet lliw diwylliannol yn parhau i fod yn ganolig i’w gwaith.

Mae gan Rachel ffordd chwareus a manylgar i ddylunio a’r broses gwneud. Cesglir deunyddiau i gasgliad, gan aros i’w harchwilio o fewn proses arlunio 3D gyda’r nod o greu chyfansoddiad i ddeunyddiau anhraddodiadol weithio gyda’i gilydd.
