Samuel Hasler is currently Mission Gallery’s Artist in Residence. This event is a presentation of his progress linked to this residency, which will eventually result in a publication artwork, to be launched at Mission Gallery later this year.

PRAY BABY PRAY
Last year, whilst writing for a small publication, I came upon a thought or idea. This small but troublesome thought proposes, that any interrogation or engagement with an artists work should open with the question ‘What do you care about?’.
Over the next few months I shall return to this question as a point of departure and respond as a visual artist. I begin on an adventure of materials and ideas, a series of new artworks in sculptural, performative and written form. Blankets, Counter Culture Books, Confessional Prayers... how does it all add up?
I begin this journey with a two month studio residency linked to Mission Gallery, Swansea. It will eventually culminate in a new publication artwork later in the year.

The Crash
Working on a table and on the floor of the space with a huge collection of printed prayer cards. I’ll be arranging the cards as drawings and fragile structures to create architectural models pattern, puzzle, code and text.
I’m concerned, in my actions, with architecture, demolishing and rebuilding, care, and survival.
